Art & Design
The members of the Art & Design Department are Mrs Cairns (Principal Teacher) and Mrs Morton.
Art & Design has never been so relevant or important to the education of the whole individual as it is today. In our teaching of Art & Design, we aim to offer our pupils an awareness and understanding of their visual surrounding which will enable them to enjoy and appreciate what they see around them and to leave us better equipped to develop informed responses to their own visual world.
Our BGE course in Art & Design is a continuation of CfE where pupils are able to learn to skills and techniques in order to prepare for National courses.
In the senior phase pupils are encouraged to develop imagination and creativity whilst working at a level that suits their levels of ability and appropriate to their individual needs. In Art & Design courses the levels available are National 3, 4, 5 and Higher. The Creative Industries is an expanding area and a significant contributor to our economy. Art and Design includes routes into a broad range of careers where creative thinking and problem solving is an advantage. These include, Web design & development; fashion industry; hairdressing; millinery; animation; town planning; moving image industry (TV & film); illustration; industrial & product design; jewellery design; architecture; conservation; teaching; art therapy; culinary arts; choreography; interior design; photography; graphic design to name but a few.
