The staff members are – Mr A. Shanks (Principal Teacher) and Mr R. Boyle and Mr Bradley (DHT)
As the name of the department implies, the Department provides subject experiences and outcomes that relate to real life situations and experiences whilst providing pupils with problem solving skills and creative thinking skills.
In S1 and S2, pupils work with 3 different subjects that are linked to each other throughout –
Graphics – Computer based skills and drawing board work.
Design – How the design process takes place and why we use different materials.
Woodwork/Metalwork/Plastics – Developing hand skills in the manufacture of wood, plastic and metal items.
In S3, pupils can opt to further develop their skills in Graphic Communication, Design & Manufacture and Practical Woodworking/Metalworking.
In the Senior Phase, pupils can choose to follow National Courses ( N4/N5, Higher) in Graphic Communication and Design & Manufacture and (N4/N5) in Practical Woodworking/Metalworking.
There are a number of career opportunities that pupils could opt for having completed Design & Technology subjects:
The subjects being offered can open many doors be it academic or non-academic.
Graphic Communication – Architecture, Engineering, Graphic Design.
Design & Manufacture – Product Design.
Practical Woodworking/Metalworking – suitable for one wishing to pursue a trade or demonstrate the ability to work safely with their hands and power tools/machinery.
