The members of Ayr Academy Science Department are Mr Standring (Biology and Principal Teacher of Science), Mrs McDonald (Physics), Mr Fleming (Chemistry) and Ms McCreadie (Biology)
The Science Department offers a wide range of courses in both Broad General Education and in the Senior Phase.
In S1 and S2, pupils work through CfE Science and experience Biology, Chemistry and Physics themed topics.
In S3, pupils can choose to further develop their skills in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science.
In the Senior Phase, pupils can choose to follow National Courses (N3, N4 or N5) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Environmental Science, or Higher courses in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
There are a number of career opportunities that pupils could opt for having completed Science subjects:
Biology is required for many different careers and jobs including many in the Health service, Microbioloy, Zoology, Pharmacology, Environmental Health, Laboratory Work, Education & Microbiology.
Chemistry is required many different careers and jobs including Chemical Engineering, Dietetics, Forensic Science, Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, Education, Laboratory Work, Research and Development.
Physics is required for many different careers and jobs including Armed Forces and Defence solutions, Astronomy, Education, Engineering, Telecommunications, Nanotechnology, Oil, Gas & Renewables Industries, Scientific Research, branches of Medicine including Radiography, Optics, Biomechanics, Prosthetics, & Audiology.
