Ayr Academy Ethos and Aims

Ayr Academy is a non-denominational, co-educational six-year comprehensive school meeting the educational needs of young people drawn from Annbank, Coylton, Dalmilling, Newton and other areas of Ayr.

In broad terms, the aims of Ayr Academy are:-

1. to provide the best educational opportunities possible to enable all pupils to achieve and fulfil their potential.

2. to encourage the development of the personal, social and intellectual skill to enable our pupils to take a responsible place in society.

3. to be a purposeful and caring community where everyone feels valued and where talent and ability are encouraged.

4. to emphasise success and achievement for all of our pupils.

A more detailed statement of the aims of Ayr Academy is included as Appendix 1 (page 52) in the handbook.

The responsibility for a young person’s education does not lie solely with the school although most of the formal part of the education may take place there. Education has always been a partnership between teacher and pupil, between home and school and between school and the wider community. To this end, the school encourages parents to take a full and active interest in their child’s education and to establish worthwhile links between the home and the school.

The school community has identified and adopted a set of core values that underpin the work of the school. These values are:-

  • Ambition
  • Respect
  • Compassion
  • Responsibility
  • Community
