Duke of Edinburgh’s Award 2016-10-18T13:15:42+00:00

The Ayr Academy Duke of Edinburgh program has been running successfully for a number of years and offers all pupils of an appropriate age to take part.  There are 3 levels of the Duke of Edinburgh award, Bronze, Silver and Gold and they are made up of 4 essential sections of Volunteering, Physical, Skill and Expedition.  Pupils must complete each section on their own time for varying periods dependant on the award.  Staff at Ayr Academy help to assist the pupils in this and also oversee the expedition phase along with the loaning of necessary equipment, supported by dedicated staff at South Ayrshire Council where as a local authority, we are consistently one of the most successful Nationally.

Pupils are eligible to enrol on their Bronze award from the S3 year, Bronze from S4 and Gold from S5.  Pupils normally start with Bronze but there is a route to go straight to a higher award if they change their mind and want to complete the award later in their school journey.

Ayr Academy will be running recruitment events for our next Bronze intake from our new S3 year group throughout September and October with the aim of getting them up and running with their sections through the winter so they can undertake their expeditions in May or June next year.

Silver recruitment with S4 will take place later in the year however if any pupil is interested in the award please tell them to come and see one of our team.
